PERSONAL STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

At Thriving Leaders Collaborative, LLC, we believe the bottom line in education is improving outcomes for students. Unfortunately, schools typically spend an inordinate amount of time and resources doing and saying things to and for students. These approaches only bring about limited change.

One of the keys to sustainable school improvement lies in personal student development. Educators must learn and grow with them, from them and teach them how to take ownership for their own learning. We must teach youth about themselves and how to analyze their circumstances so they can hold themselves accountable for the decisions and choices they make. Personal Student Development is about helping students eliminate blame and encouraging them to accept their right and responsibility to make informed decisions about self, school, behavior, family and life and being prepared for the consequences of their choices.

TLC works directly with students through school assemblies and student seminar assemblies.  Key areas of focus will include Cultivating Agency, Personal Motivation, and School-Community Pride and Accountability.  In these forthcoming settings, TLC team members will provide interactive Inspirational Speaking with engaging themes that build student capacity, teach core values, tackle some of the toughest issues students face today, and guide them to become their own visionaries.

School turnaround is TLC’s specialty.  Successful turnaround cannot happen without involving direct delivery to the students.  In planning for the student assemblies, TLC team members will initially plan with school leaders for the theme of these convocations to be sustainable throughout the year.  If desired, Select  Student Seminars will be held over 4 days, two in the Fall and two in the Spring.  To strengthen this direct work with students, TLC will also conduct Parent/Community Member Workshops and provide additional training for campus leadership to ensure “Thorough Sustainability” of Personal Student Development.
